Understanding IP Addresses: IPv4 vs IPv6
Every device on the internet has an IP address, which acts like a digital home address. There are two main types: IPv4 and IPv6.
What is IPv4?
IPv4 is the original version, using 32-bit addresses (e.g., 192.168.1.1). It supports about 4.3 billion unique addresses, which is not enough for the modern internet.
What is IPv6?
IPv6 uses 128-bit addresses (e.g., 2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334), allowing for trillions of unique devices. It also improves security and efficiency.
Why the Change?
The world is running out of IPv4 addresses. IPv6 ensures everyone can connect, now and in the future.
